Welcome to the “18th Annual Government Financial Management Conference!
We look forward to you joining us at the Department of Treasury, Financial Management Services’, “18th Annual Government Financial Management Conference”. It is truly a great financial management education event that will be held in Washington DC on August 5-7, 2008.

Government requirements are constantly changing and staying current with changes in government financial management has never been more challenging. This conference offers training for government employees, especially for those involved with financial accountability. There are an array of new regulations, accelerated deadlines and heightened expectations at every level of government. This year’s conference theme is “Meeting the Challenges of Financial Management. The conference offers up to 24 CPE hours and it promises to be an excellent learning opportunity for government financial managers and accountability professionals.

Take advantage of the networking opportunities the conference has to offer. The agenda is being finalized and the speakers are outstanding. Subject matters experts from FMS, GAO, OMB, and other organizations will explain current regulations, describe future challenges and initiatives, discuss emerging issues, and share lessons learned.

If you can pick just one training event this year, make it the “18th Annual Government Financial Management Conference! This year’s conference will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, 1300 Pennsylvania, NW, Washington DC.


About the Conference

For 17 years, FMS' Government Financial Management Conference has provided exceptional training and education for government financial managers in search of up-to-date, expert information on improvements, advancements, and developments in federal financial management. This year’s conference theme is "Meeting the Challenges of Financial Management". The program will be filled with dynamic sessions presented by financial experts from the private sector and federal agencies, including the Department of the Treasury and the Office of Management Budget. The plenary sessions are given by financial management experts, such as CFOs and Deputy CFOs. The break out session speakers include personnel from FMS, other federal agencies, the banking community and the private sector.

The conference has been designed to help all financial managers deal with the challenges of working in a rapidly changing government environment. Our Annual Conference offers the latest topics and most interesting developments in Financial Management. The training conference includes plenary sessions, keynote addresses, concurrent breakout sessions, networking reception, and corporate and government exhibits. The 3-day conference promises to be an excellent learning and networking opportunity for all financial managers, accountants, and budgeting/auditing personnel. You'll find that the conference will provide useful information and will have something for all accountability personnel.


General Information

  • Conference Attire:
    Business attire is appropriate for all conference activities. Be sure to pack a light jacket since meeting rooms in the hotel are frequently cool.

  • Special Meal Requests:
    TAS will do its best to accommodate special meal requests (vegetarian, low sodium, diabetic, kosher, etc) during the "sit down" or plated meal functions. Individuals that notified us of a special meal request at least two weeks before the conference will be provided with a meal based on their dietary needs. Because these meals are pre-ordered before the conference, special meal requests received onsite cannot be guaranteed.

  • Special Assistance:
    If you need assistance during the conference, please stop by the Registration Desk.

  • Cell Phone/Pager Courtesy
    Please be considerate of the presenters and other attendees - turn off your cell phones and pagers or set them to vibrate only.

  • Name Badge Policy:
    Please wear your name badge at all times. It is required for admission to all conference functions.

  • Messages for Attendees:
    For your convenience, a message board will be located at the Registration Desk. The message board will be available throughout the conference for posting messages for conference attendees. TAS does not have the ability to deliver messages directly to attendees, so we ask you to check the message board occasionally. In cases of emergency, we will do our best to locate attendees in the meeting rooms at the beginning and end of each session. However, sessions will not be interrupted, so please remember to check the message board and/or voice mail during breaks.

  • Persons With Disabilities:
    TAS strives to hold meetings that are accessible to all. Please be sure to indicate on your registration form if you require any special accommodations to participate in this event. If you require specific aids or services at any time during the conference, please stop by the Registration Desk. Because so many accommodations require that arrangements be made in advance of the conference, special requests received onsite or less than three weeks before the conference cannot be guaranteed. However, we will do our best to assist you.

    Please remember to complete the conference evaluation form included in the registration bag that you will receive at the conference. Your input will be invaluable in improving our future conferences.

The Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center is located on historic Pennsylvania Avenue in the heart of Washington, DC, within walking distance of the White House, the Capitol, Smithsonian Museums, many of Washington, DC's finest hotels and other prominent businesses, historical sites and cultural organizations.

The International Trade Center is easily accessible from three major international airports – Reagan Washington National, Dulles and BWI.

CPE Credit

Accountants are required by state governing boards to earn CPE credits to maintain and enhance their professional competence. CPE credits are granted based on a 50-minute hour. You are eligible for one CPE credit for every 50 minutes of instruction.

The 18th Annual Government Financial Management Conference offers up to 24 CPE Credits. For more information about speakers and session descriptions, please refer to the conference program. There is no prerequisite or advance preparation for this conference.

A CPE form will be included in the registration bag that you will receive at the conference. Please complete and return the form to our staff at the Registration Desk. Please allow approximately 3 weeks for the form to be approved and mailed back to you.

Please note CPE forms will only be approved and processed for attendees whose registration fees are paid in full. If your registration has not yet been paid, or if we have not received a copy of your purchase order or government credit card information, please contact your agency's billing office to expedite payment.
